Just One Thing...

We all have dreams, goals, ambitions, wants, and gotta-have's, but as I serve up a life size slice of reality....many, if not most, will fail to attain some or even just one biggie from 'The List'! But what if there was a way? A way to move forward, gain traction, and start achieving in a BIG way! I'm not gonna give you a Harvard lecture or don you with a prestigious Cambridge degree, but if you can't see the trees for the forest, then I better show you how to spot the trees.

I'm going to leave you with a couple ideas that if implemented, will get the wheels turning and ball rolling. Some call it forecasting or goal setting, other may just equate it to 'getting you're but in gear'! The idea is simple...we are going to start with the concept of Just One Thing.

Think about you and your life right now:

What is it you want to achieve?

What do you enjoy doing?

What skill are you good at?

What is your passion?

What do you want to learn?

What have you always wanted to be good at?

What task have you been putting off?

What habit or routine do you want to start?

Whatever it is that you feel will help you elevate your life in some way, set it out and speak it loud. It can be a grand goal, a bucket list item, or simply a hobby or activity. Make it a thing, and hold yourself accountable. So, if you are thinking now, 'How am I going to achieve this?' Well it's simple....just do one thing every day that is in line with your goal. Do one thing daily that advances your skill, embeds a habit, builds confidence, instills joy, and creates momentum. The onus is now on you to decide what to do each day, but the key is to do something each day, that provides opportunity for growth. If it is something daunting, something you fear or dread, then tackle it head on as early as you can so you can spend the rest of your day confident and upbeat rather than in a state of anxiousness. I believe it to be a golden rule in life that we should continually grow and develop throughout our lifetime; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Just One Thing daily will have a tremendous impact on your life if you choose to embrace the idea, accept the challenge, remain steadfast and stay disciplined.

My second idea is a little more structured when big ideas and big goals are at stake! Let's call it the A-Z Plan. Start with your BIG Goal and write out every action step that is needed, big or small, to achieving it. This works great when using cue cards for each step. Now here's the fun part. Arrange them all in a A to Z fashion by placing the most urgent and relevant step first, then the next important, and so on. Some steps will be actionable right now, others may be next week, next month, next year, and beyond. With this structure you will have created a plan to reaching and fulfilling your goal. You achieving the GOAL is now dependant on you taking action on the steps you have created. What I find is that it provides an excellent pathway and guide, that can be modified along the way, to reaching something that once may have felt out of reach.
